The Significance of Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14th, is a joyous occasion that honors the universal language of love. The day is marked by expressions of love, gratitude, and appreciation, but have you ever wondered why we celebrate Valentine's Day?

The origins of Valentine's Day are shrouded in mystery, but the most popular legend dates back to ancient Rome. Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men, believing that single men made better soldiers. Saint Valentine, a Christian priest, defied the emperor's decree and continued to perform secret marriages. When Emperor Claudius II discovered this, he had Valentine arrested and executed on February 14th. Before his execution, Saint Valentine wrote a letter to the jailer's daughter, signing it "From your Valentine," which became the inspiration for the modern-day expression of love.

Over the centuries, Valentine's Day has evolved, and its significance extends beyond the romantic love between couples. It's not just about the love with your partner but also yourself and your family. This day serves as a reminder to appreciate and express gratitude for the people who bring joy and meaning to our lives. So, how do people express their affection on Valentine's Day? The ways are countless, and the imagination knows no bounds. Some people do traditional gestures like giving flowers, chocolates, or sweet letters while others prefer more personalized and creative expressions.

In conclusion, Valentine's Day is a celebration of love, gratitude, and appreciation. It's a reminder to cherish the people who bring joy and meaning to our lives whether you're celebrating with a romantic partner, friends, family, or yourself, remember to express your affection in ways that speak to the heart.

On a Quest to Research the History and Culture of Ayusan Norte

A rollercoaster of learning, laughter, and a few moments where we had a hard time. It wasn't always smooth, but the experience brought us closer as a group and gave us a deeper appreciation for our community. Our first hurdle was figuring out what on how we will start. First our leader distribute the parts to each members to work on the part that is assigned to us. We brainstormed, throw out ideas and type on what we can add about the history and culture of Ayusan Norte by searching online.

In here, we tried to acquire more information  by going to the barangay of Ayusan Norte to at least know more about it's history and culture.

Then we interacted with the barangay kapitan to ask permission in exploring the history and culture. We were able to get the information we need for our research. It gave us a firsthand understanding of the history and culture about Ayusan Norte.

We also took pictures of the vibrant community.

After that we head back and well we were hungry so we took a break for a while before continuing our research. We had fun eating and talking forgetting the stress we had on making our research.

Finally, it was time to type our research and prepare our presentation. This involved many late nights and a healthy dose of teamwork. We all helped each other for us to finish our CBR. Eventually we finished it because of the teamwork we have. The rest, when we were done presenting our CBR to the class, we felt relieved because it was finally finish. :)

My Third Quarter Journey

This quarter felt like diving headfirst into the world of web development and honestly, it's been a rollercoaster! Despite some of the difficulties that I have experienced in coding I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of them. The biggest "aha!" moment, though, came with CBR. It's like having a mental library of past problems and solutions to draw from since we have to acquire the needed information and apply the lessons in html that we have tackled in the research with our group mates.

I'm realizing that it's not just for coding but a whole way of thinking that I can apply to pretty much anything. Like with any challenge, I just kept at it. Online tutorials, asking classmates for help and lots of practice got me through the struggles.

Now I'm looking forward to what's next. I want to dive deeper into CSS and really polish my web design skills. I'm really excited about how much I can learn in the next quarter.

A Shared Celebration

The air hums with anticipation, a feeling you can smell the smoky scent of incense drifting from family altars. Red lanterns swing gently in the breeze, even if you don't have a drop of Chinese blood in you, you can't help but feel caught up in the magic.

This time of year is deeply personal especially to the chinese people. It's a chance to reconnect with their roots, to share the stories of their ancestors and they would also pray or wish for good health and fortune. In my perspective, Filipinos observe that this celebration is a way to honor their past while celebrating the present, a beautiful reminder of how their heritage has shaped who they are.

But Chinese New Year in the Philippines isn't just for those with Chinese ancestry. It's a celebration that's woven into the fabric of Filipino culture, a shared experience that brings communities together. Whatever it is, there's something about the festive atmosphere that draws everyone in. It's a time for families to gather, to share a meal, to laugh, and enjoy. It's a reminder that even though we may come from different backgrounds, we all share the same hopes for happiness, prosperity, and a fresh start.

Beyond the Enchanting Cityhood of Vigan

Vigan City is a beautiful city in the Philippines with a rich history. It used to be a small municipality, but now it has grown into a thriving city. This blog post explores the history of Vigan City, from its humble beginnings as a municipality to its present-day.

In the source that I have found, Vigan was found in the 16th century by the Spanish. It was originally a small settlement. Vigan was a major trading center, and it was also home to a number of important government buildings. In the 19th century, Vigan was the capital of the Ilocos Sur province. The city was a center of learning and culture, and it was home to a number of prestigious schools and universities.

The city has continued to grow and prosper since then. Today, Vigan is a popular tourist destination just like the Calle Crisologo being the most famous tourist spot. The city is known for its well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture. Vigan City is a city with a bright future. The city is continuing to grow and develop, and it is really a fascinating place to learn about its historicity.

Bloom for a fresh start

 DRAFT 2

This year, my mantra is "New Year, New Me," but with a distinct twist. I'm making my dreams my top priority instead of putting love first. This means that I'm letting love aside to relentlessly pursue my dreams. I've come to realize that my aspirations, my ambitions, and my personal growth deserve equal, if not greater, attention.

I am not saying that I'm turning my back on love or dismissing it's significance. Rather, I'm recognizing that my happiness and fulfilment are deeply intertwined with achieving my goals. Letting love take a backseat doesn't make me heartless. It means I'm taking care of myself and building a strong foundation for a good life.

This year, I'm dedicated to achieving my goals. I'm studying hard, working diligently, and pursuing my passions with enthusiasm. I'm learning to say no to things that distract me, to manage my time effectively, and to rely on myself. My journey of self-discovery and achievement comes first.

A minimalist holiday

 DRAFT 1

After the Christmas party ended on December 20, 2024, we went to Onederland. Walking past the place we always wanted to go ever since it opened. We captured it's beauty and enjoying the moment that filled us with an indescribable sense of joy. Although it was a fleeting moment, it was a cherish experience that will mark on my memory. Then the next few days that I have spent were a bit uneventful for me. I spent most of my time doing the usual, sleeping, eating, and scrolling through TikTok.

However, that Christmas Eve was a highlight. We gathered as a family for the first time because usually it was just the four of us, my mother, my two siblings and myself. It was kind of gloomy since my father couldn't come back home to celebrate it with us since he is in Singapore. Our uncles and aunties from my father's side were there anyways when we celebrate Christmas. Despite not having him around, we were able to enjoy. We played games, won prizes, enjoyed delicious food, and also exchange gifts. We also receive an ampao that our auntie from Canada gave us. It was a blast!

Then on New Year's eve, we started the day by attending the church, followed by a relaxed evening with my family, eating, sharing drinks and conversations as we wait to greet the new year. As the clock struck midnight, we cheered, jumped with excitement, and welcomed the new year. After the celebrations, we settled down and eventually went to sleep. It may be just a simple celebration for us but we were still able to make it memorable.

Reflection on Second Quarter Learnings in HTML

Draft #5 Blog post no.5

a. What are the learning/discoveries that I have gained?

During the second quarter, I have delved into various aspects of HTML, such as tags, frames, tables, background colors, links, and fonts. I discovered how each HTML tag serves a specific purpose in structuring and presenting web content. Learning about this helped me understand and learn new things. It taught me how to use tags and organize data systematically, while experimenting with background colors and fonts allowing me to enhance the visual appeal of web pages. Additionally, I learned how to create hyperlinks, which are essential for connecting different web pages and resources.

 b. What are the problems/challenges that I have encountered?

It may look "easy" but in reality it's difficult especially understanding the correct syntax and usage of various HTML tags. For me, I struggled with nesting tags properly and ensuring that my code was clean and error-free. Another challenge was designing the tables or texts that were both functional and aesthetically pleasing, like which color of font I should put that would enhance readability and user experience.

c. How did I address these challenges?

As for a lot of activities I have completed or have done in ict, in overcoming these challenges, I sought help and double check my work before saving to ensure that it is error-free. I also practiced coding regularly, which helped me become more familiar with HTML syntax and best practices. In designing tables and selecting colors and fonts, I referred to design principles and guidelines to ensure that my choices were effective.

d. Moving on, I will…

Moving on, I will continue to build and enhance my skills about HTML by exploring more advanced topics. I plan to work on personal projects to apply what I have learned and to further improve my coding abilities. By doing so, I aim to create more dynamic and visually appealing web pages that provide a great user experience and to be able to continue on improving more.

Anchored on the National Women's Month Celebration and the 2024 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (THEMATIC)

Anchored on the National Women's Month Celebration and the 2024 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women

Violence against women is a profound social issue that cuts across borders, cultures, and societies. It is said that at least 1 in 3 women worldwide has experienced some form of violence in her lifetime. In the Philippines, in the 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey by the Philippine Statistics Authority, a rather worrying figure has been uncovered: nearly 1 in 5 women report having experienced emotional, physical, or sexual violence at the hands of her current or most recent husband or intimate partner. These demand different kinds of actions and movements, such as the National Women's Month Celebration, in coordination with the campaigns that will be done within the 2024 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women.

Under the Republic Act No. 9262, known as the Anti-Violence Agaisnt Women AndTheir Children Act of 2004, is a comprehensive legislative instrument for combating violence against women and children in the country. The said law refers to all genres of abuse: physical, sexual, psychological, and economic violence. The mechanisms of protection and support for the victims thereof ensure the proper legal, medical, and psychologic assistance. The significance of this in the annual celebration of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women is indeed something that cannot be overemphasized. Being a law that not only provides legal processes for the protection of women and children but also serves as a tool and symbol of having a country committed to the elimination of VAW, the annual campaign draws people's attention to the message through this piece of legislation and heightens the awareness of mobilizing communities into action to eliminate violence.

There is also the legislation of R.A. 8353 known as the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, redefine rape and expands it to its meaning in the Philippines. This law recognized rape as a crime against persons, not a crime against chastity. It includes marital rape. This landmark law shifted the focus from an infringement on personal autonomy and dignity to consent. Elongating the definition of rape, this Republic Act reaches out to a greater number of more victims exercising their right to justice; simultaneously, it acknowledges rape may happen under the roof of marriage due to better protection of the women.

The Safe Spaces Act or the Republic Act No.11313 was enacted in 2019 with regard to gender-based sexual harassment within public and private places, workplaces, and educational institutions and on online platforms. It includes catcalling, wolf-whistling, and other forms of sexual harassment. What this law does is make more inclusive the safer spaces that women and other vulnerable groups experience as being created. They make a culture of respect and equality through accountability. In that sense, the Safe Spaces Act addresses harassment in all settings to ensure women can move freely and safely in all aspects of their lives.

R.A. 11648, (An Act Amending R.A. 8353 or The Anti-Rape Law of 1997) in 2022. This amendment of the Anti-Rape Law of 1997 lowers the age of sexual consent to 16 from the previous age of 12 years. This would secure minors better against sexual exploitation and abuse. R.A. 11648 increases the age of sexual consent, therefore strengthening legal protection for the children against sexual predators. In the initial consideration, it shows a respect to the vulnerability that even the younger sectors possess so they are protected from exploitation and abuse.

R.A. 11862 or Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022. An amendment to the original Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, this law imposes further stiffened penalties for traffickers, better protection and support to its victims, and more potent ways to prevent such a crime. R.A. 11862 provides full-bodied measures against this crime in contemplating what was and is the changing nature of human trafficking. It ensures that victims receive adequate support and perpetrators are dealt with severely, thus bolstering the fight against human trafficking.

R.A. 9208 or Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003. The R.A. 9208 prohibited human trafficking and provided measures for protective and rehabilitative actions towards victims. The law involved a different type of trafficking, whether sexual, labor, or organ trafficking. Among the pioneering Philippine laws that can be said to have effectively opposed human trafficking, the R.A. 9208 is one of them. It has served as the basis upon which other follow-up laws and programs were created in order to combat trafficking and help its victims.

R.A  10364 or Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2013 it is the legal framework in the Philippines to combat human trafficking by broadening the definition of trafficking crimes, including forced labor, sexual exploitation, and online abuse. It also enhances victim protection, increases penalties for traffickers, and promotes international cooperation to address trafficking more effectively, ensuring a safer environment for vulnerable individuals.strengthens the Philippines' fight against human trafficking by broadening the definition of trafficking to include forced labor, child exploitation, and online abuse. It enhances victim protection through immediate assistance, legal support, and social reintegration, while imposing harsher penalties for offenders, particularly those trafficking minors. The law also emphasizes international cooperation and preventive measures, aiming to create a safer environment for vulnerable individuals and effectively combat human trafficking on both domestic and global scales.

The National Women's Month Celebration and the 2024 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women reminds us the need to continue advocating for gender equality and women's rights. These  highlights the ongoing challenges women face, including violence and discrimination, while also celebrating their strength and resilience. By raising about this, we can foster a culture of respect and empowerment for women.

Indigenous Peoples Month

 Draft 3 Blog post no.3

This Indigenous Peoples Month isn’t just any month in the Philippines. It’s a time to celebrate the incredible diversity and resilience of our Indigenous Peoples (IPs). As we mark the 27th anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA), this year’s theme, “Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge,” shines a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of our Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs). From the mountains to the seas, our Indigenous Peoples have been stewards of the land for generations. Their deep connection to nature and their age-old wisdom have shaped our country’s rich cultural tapestry.

They’ve gifted us with sustainable farming practices, traditional medicine, and a profound understanding of environmental balance. This month-long celebration is more than just a formality. It’s a chance to dive into the heart of Indigenous cultures, to learn from their traditions, and to appreciate their unique perspectives. Through cultural festivals, educational programs, and community engagements, we can bridge the gap between Indigenous and mainstream communities, fostering a sense of unity and respect.

The IPRA stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to protecting the rights of our Indigenous Peoples. It’s a legal framework that safeguards their land, their culture, and their way of life. By upholding these rights, we honor the legacy of our ancestors and ensure a brighter future for generations to come. The IPRA serves as a critical tool in addressing historical injustices and empowering Indigenous communities to reclaim and protect their ancestral domains. Through its enforcement, we not only recognize their invaluable contributions to our nation’s heritage but also foster a more inclusive and just society for all.

Let’s celebrate Indigenous Peoples Month with gratitude and action. Let’s listen to their stories, learn from their wisdom, and support their aspirations. Together, we can build a more just and equitable society where every voice is heard and every culture is valued. By amplifying Indigenous voices and respecting their traditions, we can create lasting change that honors their unique contributions. This month, let us commit to standing in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples, ensuring their rights and cultures are preserved for future generations.

Resiliency of the Filipinos Through the Demands of Climate Change

Draft #2: Climate Change and Resiliency of Filipinos.

As we all know that climate change has become a pressing issue in the  Philippines for it's highly vulnerable to natural disasters due to its geographical location. The increased frequency and intensity of typhoons have had devastating effects on the massive destruction and loss of life such as the extreme weather events becoming more common and highlighting the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness for the safety and protection of our community.

Furthermore, we know that deforestation and land degradation are environmental challenges faced by the Philippines. Additionally, illegal logging and the conversion of forests have led to significant loss of biodiversity and increased  vulnerability to landslides and soil erosion. These environmental challenges often results in poor waste management and increased pollution. Managing these problems requires a collaborative effort to enforce environmental regulations.

Besides deforestation, land degradation, illegal logging and the conversion of forests, the rising of sea levels is another threat to the Philippines that coastal communities are particularly at risk of flooding that can lead to the loss of livelihoods. It also adversely affects the agricultural and fishery sectors that are vital to the local economy.

As these sea levels continue to rise, the need for sustainable coastal management would become  increasingly critical.

Regardless of these challenges, the resilience of the Filipino people still radiates through. People in the community have shown astonishing adaptability in the face of misfortune in their life, with efforts to improve disaster preparedness and response. Continued support from both the government and international community is crucial to ensure that the Philippines can build a imperishable and persistent future for the people.
